| so here's a caffeine fueled line of thinking.
This conversation was brought about by the question of whether animals
go to heaven. the bible says only humans have souls, so by definition,
no animals can go to heaven. but what sort of heaven doesn't allow you
to have you favorite pet? so maybe when you're in heaven, you don't
care about that sort of thing. but that got me thinking, how great can heaven be if you don't have any cares?
the soul is suppose to be the immortal part of you that transcends the
body. so if its immortal, does that mean its stripped of your memories,
your personality, your wants and fears, when you leave this body? if
your soul couldn't care less about spending eternity with your loyal
pet, then how much of that soul is actually you?
so if you don't have the memories of your time on earth and your
earthly seperation from god, then can you really take pleasure in being
in heaven? but if you do have your memories, then how can you not care
if your dog, your spouse, your grandma or whatever, is not joining you
in heaven? you probably would care, unless closeness to god is some
sort of heroin-like bliss where you couldn't give a shit about anyone
else.
so is that the nature of heaven? where some blanked version of you
is kicking it in a cracked-out stupor for the rest of eternity?
ug, i can't believe i'm up this early. i shouldn't have had so much coffee yesterday...

| awww, poor panda!

A
giant panda with a broken back underwent an operation yesterday in
Xi'an, capital of northwest Shaanxi Province. It is the first time such
an operation has been carried out on a panda and experts hope they may
be able to breed from the animal.
The
injured panda was found on April 4th in Shaanxi Changqing State-class
Nature Reserve in the Qinling Mountains, and was transferred to Xi'an
on April 6th, said Zhao Bin, director of Shaanxi Rare Wildlife Rescuing
and Raising Research Centre, who gave the official go ahead for the
operation to take place.
After the bear was found, experts
worked overnight making a careful examination of the injured panda.
They found the 20-year-old bear had suffered three broken vertebrae and
damage to its spinal chord causing partial paralysis, said Li Liujin,
professor of the Animal Experimental Centre.
This
operation has both saved the panda's life and given us invaluable
experience which we can draw from in our future rescue work with other
pandas, Professor Li added.
Experts believe that, as April
is the species' peak mating season, the panda was injured by other
bears while fighting over females.
aren't the pics so damn cute?
